Western Australia staged the inaugural Womens State Championships at the Lightweight Motorcycle Club Sunday the 17th June 2007.

Women in Motocross have competed within the mens classes for years and barely been recognised for their efforts.But it is a Catch 22 of women not being able to field a large enough grid to go it alone, and because theres not enough to field a seperate grid, other women will not go to the expense of buying a licence and club membership.

The serious racers who go out and compete with the boys, have been pursuing a state title for Women for years, and along with WAMX this year, decided it was time to put the event on and see where it headed.
Run in conjunction with the States Premier event, the WAMX State Motocross Championships, the women pitted along side the states fastest Solo Racers who were competing for their round 4 points.

The Timed race format for the women was set on what the Championship solos Race,and the prize money was to be awarded at Championship dollars. The Women would earn their Title, they werent about to be given it.
Sponsors werent easily convinced that the event would run, but 17 Girls both Solo and Quad competed for their Titles,and had an absolute ball.

Western Australias Two fastest Women,
Karyn Wiggins on the Solo #424 Machine and Cathy Bush on #21 Quad Machine,have been undeniabley WA's fastest women, and now they can call themselves Western Australia's State Champions.

All Women who received podium placings will receive their Trophies and accolades at the WAMX Gala Presentation Dinner on Oct 19th.

Western Australia also has 7 Junior Quad Girls ranging between 12 and 15yrs who were on hand as a support Demonstration Class for up coming Women in Motocross. The girls did a 4 lap moto after round 1, to the applause of the crowd, of which I think were quite surprised at their speed and skill.
