State Round 1 Stockton Park Collie Easter Sunday 2006
This years state round has taken a somewhat different turn for our family, looking more at helping out, officiating and promoting Quad racing where ever we can.
Last year we convinced the MX committee that Clubman class would take off in its second year to give it a chance and put it back in for the 2006 series, and wow... we had 16 line up on the grid at Collie. Pro class had a few missing due to illness ie Ryan Lancaster getting food poisoning on the way , long trip, we will all look forward to Ryans Debut at Bunbury June 11.
Race 1 of Pro's saw Chris Brenton stuck at the gate watching the whole cast and crew disappear around the first corner, Jared took advantage and held the lead up until a mechanical mishap ended his day on lap 4, meanwhile Chris Brenton had made his way through the field to take the line honours, a fierce battle took place between Colin Jefferies, Ant Yewers, Glen Ashworth and Graham Terry with Colin cementing second place 2 laps from home and Glen squeezing into third on the last lap.
Race 2 Brenton holeshotted the field for the first time in WA in a long time, Chad McKay made his presence known coming through the field to take second with Colin and GT fighting it out for the minor positions.
Race 3 Chad McKay took holeshot honours with Brenton eating at his nerf Bars, taking the lead in the first lap, McKay dropped to fourth and Clint Mansell and Ant Yewers were up there fighting for the podium. Ant managed the 2nd on a hard raced and hard fought day battling injury. Brett Yewers and Chris Sloot upgraded from Clubmans to Pro's put in a good days racing, their times would have placed them in the top 3 of Clubmans, will be great to watch Young Sloot progress through the season. Garry Stacey made the long Haul from his new home in Newman back for the Championship and Kevin Fanning returned this year again sponsored by Polaris Central sporting the latest Predator.
Clubmans was always going to be the race to watch with Tom Stevens & Cameron Brown back for their second year at racing, Brad Jefferies and Clint Hill returning to the race scene, Dean Terry from Kalgoorlie switching from Solo's to Quads, Corey Stratton fresh from a Harvey Race Series Victory, Tony Sinclair & Matt Norman who are very exciting to watch, Michael Harcourt finally stepping it up to race state round, Mark Davison another Kalgoorlie boy, Grant and Darren Williams newcomers to the State round,Daniel Udell from Manjimup, Darryl Maringoni one of the longest racing Quad Boys out there, but not to be outdone is Barry Stratton, at over 50 years old has started his first state round finishing creditable 8th
Brendon Reynolds made his debut state round momentus by being the only quad racer to come under the new strict noise testing levels! A few newcomers are set to join state round in Bunbury and some returning racers unable to be at the Collie round, all is looking great towards making this series the best ever.
