It had been over a month since the last State Round at Coastal Park, but Southern Cross Open had been run on August the 5th and was won by Chris Brenton, The Victorian State Titles was held August 11th & 12th, Ryan Lancaster won the Pro Title, Anthony Yewers won the 35+ Vets. Dave Sanders & Taylor Milling took out 1st and 2nd at the PigFarm Classic.
Round 5 at BSA HDMCC certainly stood up to everyones expectations, including a beautiful Spring days weather. The track being clay started out a little heavy and certainly reminded us all what it was like to ride at Noble Falls, everyone came in from Practice with a thick coating of clay stuck to everything ! The Quads must of done the job though, as after that, the track was neat as a pin and as the day went on, the track and riders got faster and all riders started clearing all the fantastic jumps.
State Championships is coming to the business end of the series and it certainly has been a series to remember, although Chris Brenton has stamped a commanding lead on the Championship, anything can happen and as seen in the 2006 Series, BSA is where it all takes place.
Race 1 had the familiar site of Brenton & Lancaster out in front. Brenton lead from start to finish, with Lancaster battling it out with Yewers, Higson back in 8th in lap 2 fought his way through the pack, increasing his position each time around to finish 3rd. Lancaster got free of Yewers and put in a huge effort to close the gap between himself and Brenton, with only 20 or so metres between them, the race was on over the table tops creekside. Brenton 1st Lancaster 2nd, Josh Higson 3rd.
Race2 saw the sun come out and the track continually drying out, lap times were getting faster and the prestige of having the fastest lap time of the day exceeds having the best lap time on ATV Vs MX unleashed. Dave Sanders continues to show he is ready for the pro's continually mixing it with them and not afraid to go for holeshot amongst Australias fastest Pro Quad Racers. Brenton again getting the holeshot with Ashworth and Yewers in hot pursuit, Lancaster & Higson moved through the pack relegating Ashworth and Yewers to 4th and 5th. There seemed to have been some mix up with the tower and the riders were given the chequers after lap 4 causing confusion for spectators and riders, Brenton knowing he had only done 4 kept going, which lead the entire field to keep going, again being given the chequers on Lap 5, this time the field pulled in, in a total state of confusion, and having been scored at the end of lap 4.
Race 3 saw the first mistake Brenton had made all day, stalling on the start line as the gates dropped allowed Yewers his best start of the day, leading for 2 laps before Lancaster stormed through to put a convincing gap between himself and the rest of the field, Brenton meanwhile was a man on a mission making easy work of the entire field to push his way back up into second, a Spectator mentioned "it was unbelievable to see how fast he could actually go" Lancaster came through for the win, Brenton 2nd and Higson again in 3rd

Intermediates were mixing it well with the Pro's, David Sanders won all 3 races, the overall winner of the class placed well in the outright 4th 6th 5th. Tom Stevens finished the day in 2nd with Taylor Milling suffering a mixture of fortunes throughout the day, and from eye witness Grant Gaisford #28 following Taylor saw him pullout of what could of been a massive accident. Well done Taylor to keep it in all 4's.
Clubmans was the class of the day for me, with son Luke having his first Senior State Round experience, having had my daughter suffer a bad accident last time we were at Noble Falls, it was with relief we got the first race out of the way without too much grief. Scott Higson got the holeshot with Luke Gaisford and Ben Papas on his back wheels, Gaisford ran wide as Higson took the inside line, with Gaisford sling shotting right around the outside and into the lead. Daniel Udell was forging his way through the pack, eventually overtaking Higson on Lap 3 but time was against him to chase down the leader who took his first race win. Great to see all the coastal members hanging over the fence to high five him !
Race 2 saw Gaisford with the holeshot, while Higson, Udell & Papas fought it out for the minor placings. Race 3 saw Higson and Papas fight it out for holeshot with Gaisford & Udell down the order, the track had dried out and the boys were all now at full speed around this hard pack track, Higson was sliding back through the placings, Gaisford had hit the front with Udell in behind Papas for the final time over the finish line.
The final round of the series will be held at Coastal Park on October 14th
The action starts at 8.30am and as usual parking will be at a premium with all 3 Pro Championship's on the line.
Adults $20 and kids under 16 free.
