AJS Motorcycle Club
A huge thankyou to the AJS Motorcycle Club and all the Volunteers who gave up their day to come out and help run the Quad Championships. It was all very much appreciated by everyone.
There were over 30 Junior quads competing for their State Titles, please check out their article here
Track Prep at Wanneroo Park was immaculate, the weather was a perfect sunny 17 degrees, everything was in place for a great days racing.
Clubman class saw Chris Howard, Steve Trandos and Tom Udell each take a win with a mixture of quite a few riders, taking positions down to 5th. This time of the year always seems to start showing the shining stars in the Clubman group, who is their for a ride, and who is out to race hard and step up to Intermediates.
Chris Howard was certainly a surprise package, predominantly an Enduro specialist, he hole-shot the first race, had a battle to retain the lead but came across the finish with a first place and a lot of accolades from his enduro peers.
Tom Udell would have to be one of the most improved riders of the series, was great to see him with the win in race 3. Steve Trandos and Ricky Stephens had the added extra competition of Daryl Maringoni , Jesse Dick and Nathan Vestey, but their consistent high results got them across the line to further their positions for the series.
Round results Steve Trandos 1st Chris Howard 2nd Ricky Stephens 3rd.
Veterans saw a battle royal between Brett Petricevich, Vince Thomson and Grant Gaisford. Petricevich taking a 10 point lead for the Series, while Gaisford had a shocking day at the office with 2 crashes, causing him to have to come from the rear of the field to salvage 3rd place points. Thomson, took his first race win of the series, on the back of his outright Open win at the BSA Cup a week earlier.
Women featured within the Clubman field, 7 in total getting a feel of the competition for the Womens State Championships in 2 weeks at Lightweight MCC. Jessica Harrison took a hatrick of wins with the rest of the women mixing up the results in every other race. The round results
Jessica Harrison 1st, Fiona Moir 2nd, Jessica Osborne 3rd
Round 4 saw the high Profile Pro/ Int Quad racers put on some extremely fast racing, the track conditions were suitable to some of the fastest lap times seen at AJS. Chris Brenton lead the first race from start to finish while Anthony Yewers and Ryan Lancaster battled it out, Ryan passed Ant and put in a huge effort to chase Brenton down, each lap the gap was closing, while Josh Higson closed the gap on Yewers.
Brenton and Lancaster went into the last top corner over the quarry together and it was a drag race to the finish with Brenton holding a slim .694 second lead to take the win, Yewers came across 3rd, Higson 4th and Luke Gaisford 5th
Race 2 would be one remembered for a long time, the battle between Lancaster and Brenton a massive dual, with Yewers ready to pounce on any mistake, the pits were empty and everyone lined the fence lines, the last corner top of the quarry, again the leaders went into this corner together, this time a big cloud of blue smoke erupted and Brentons Bike came to a stop, the crowd screamed, the Yamaha crew cheered as Lancaster came across the line in first, while Brenton sat just 50m from the finish line unable to do anything but watch as everyone flew past. Yewers took the 2nd, Higson 3rd Gaisford 4th and Taylor Milling 5th
Race 3 was certain to be the event of the day, Brenton needing to make up for his dnf, Lancaster needing to capitalise after his dismal 3rd round result. Chris Put his Brand new 2008 Honda on the start line, a first lap crash saw Brenton out of the mix, chasing the pack to salvage at least some points for the race. Lancaster held onto his lead while Josh Higson passed Mckay then Yewers to take 2nd, Yewers in 3rd while Chad Mckay in a bit of pain from earlier mishap held on for 4th Gaisford took 5th.
Overall Round results, Ryan Lancaster 1st, Anthony Yewers 2nd, Josh Higson 3rd
Intermediates race within the Pro Quad class and Luke Gaisford is mixing it up with the Pro’s., taking some good positions outright, he is still classed as an Intermediate and therefore took the hatrick of wins in this class. Ben Papas has notched up some great results along with Gaisford over the last two rounds to take 2nd in Intermediates at Wanneroo Park, while Paul Hughes rounded out the top 3.
With just 2 rounds remaining for this years series, all eyes are on the Pro Class, who will take out the series and be WA #1 for 2008
