A picture says a thousand words... Mud bath

Round 3 of the 2008 Motorex WA State Motocross Championships will be memorable not just for being the first State Round to be held at Jindong, but because of the flooding !

Three hundred riders entered and the track was prepped by loyal Southern Capes members well into the late evening, it was after midnight when the heavens opened, and it didnt stop for hours, the track was definately going to be a survival circuit for all. Some declined to race, some just packed up and went home, but mostly Motocrossers dont mind a bit of mud and got out there for the business at hand, which was to earn some more lucrative points towards the Series Championships.

First of all, every rider that raced trully should be congratulated, entertainment factor was just enormous, riders spinning in corners, sliding sideways off the track, thank goodness for Transponders ! ! If it wasnt for them, no one would know who won, it became so difficult to tell riders apart, bikes and gear all the same colour, brown.

Down to the business end of proceeding, there were only two rounds run due to conditions, so maximum 50 points were up for grabs, Chris Brenton had a "Clean" getaway and extended his lead on the series. Ryan lancaster had a horrific day with a pair of dnf's. Anthony Yewers had tussled it out with Ryan all over the track, lap after lap, the close racing kept everyones eye's on the 22 & 44 machines. Chad Mckay on board the Savage Suzuki got back on the podium with a 2nd, while Josh Higson rounded out the top 3.

Race 2 was again on between Lancaster and Yewers while Brenton put the hammer down, through caution to the wind and took off to a good lead, Josh Higson slotted in behind for a well earnt second, Chad Mckay was back at the pointy end again until he spent some considerable time saving himself from sliding off the side of a table top.Intermediates  Luke Gaisford and Ben Papas seem to find the right lines and stay out of trouble finishing the race in 3rd and 5th outright, passing bikes who had stopped, slipped off berms, stuck on the sides of jumps, but to their credit they rode very well to have their best finishes of their young Senior careers, Anthony Yewers passed Papas to take the 4th position late in the last lap to get some valuable points.

If we thought the Pro/Int field had it tough, the Clubman/Vets class had only 7 out of the 16 riders finish all laps in the second race,  All of us in the mechanics area, ccould only encourage and cheer them all on as they finished what was probably one of the hardest rides they had had. Newcomers Nathan Vestey and Jesse Dick scored some valuable points, while Jessica Osborne was the only female to finish the day on her KTM.

Round 4 will see the Quads back up to AJS Motorcy
cle Club for a full Quad State Championships on July 13th.
