Southern Capes Open Oct 7th 2007
The Southern Capes Open at Busselton on Sunday 7th October took place at the Jindong Park Motocross facility.  180 riders competed including 15 Quads. There was a mixed field of Pro/Intermediate and Clubman riders in attendance from across the South West.
This immaculately prepared motocross track was a real treat for all riders 2 & 4 and those that didn’t go, missed out on the best Quad Track they could’ve raced on all year. Every jump although long was also spectacular for spectators and didn’t have the vertical downramps of most tracks, making the racing more flowing and safer for everyone no matter what ability. After the Juniors had competed Saturday, plenty of machinery was out on the track, having it all prepared for Sunday before dark. The relaxed atmosphere of this country club made it a pleasure for us all with everyone treated equally whether they rode 2 or 4 wheel classes.
Chris Brenton AUS#1 was certainly a cut above the rest of the field, showing a clean pair of heels each race with a trifecta of wins to take home top Dollar. Race 1 Colin Jefferies experienced dejavue in the first race throwing a chain as he did in 2005, Luke Gaisford #14 and  Tom Stevens #18 battled it out for 2nd and 3rd while Ben Papas #57, Luke Harrison #45 and Daniel Udell #47 staged their own race mid pack.
Race 2 Brenton extended a huge lead, while Jefferies was all over the Back of Gaisford, his spectacular inside pass had Luke relegated to 3rd with Ross Varnavides #301 sneeking in for 4th as Stevens and Papas had ended up being a lap down due to a tangle that took 4 people to separate the bikes.
Race 3 Brenton went in hot to the first corner, Gaisford on the inside slid through to take the holeshot and raced side by side with Gaisford over the first two jumps, Brenton hitting the top corner and never looking back, Gaisford again had Jefferies all over the back of him looking for the pass, this youg 16 Year old showed courage and smarts to not take the same line every lap and hold Jefferies out as he went for the outside pass through the S Bend. Gaisford held on for 2nd, Jefferies followed him across the finish line in 3rd and Stevens close behind in 4th.
Michael Harcourt had a better finish in 6th and Daniel Udell had the video footage of the day being bucked “Half” off his quad, hanging onto the handlebars and being dragged down to the first corner, coming to a stop, he remounted and took off. And yes for those who asked, Grant did get the whole lot on video !
