July 15th saw Coastal Motorcycle Club & WAMX host the 2007 Quad State Championships. Fielding 8 classes in total the day was going to see some classes awarded State Championship Titles and the Pro/ Intermediate and Clubman classes obtain lucrative round 4 points towards the WAMX premier State Round Series.

First of all, on behalf of WAMX I would like to thank everyone who helped out with all the jobs we allocated, the day couldnt run with out everyone in place, and it was with quite a minimum of fuss that every position that needed someone in place, was filled. To all the Coastal MCC Members that came down to help, we thank them very much too. Vince even took a day off work to prepare the track and everyone certainly appreciated that !.

The day got off to an early start with people lining up for scrutineering before 6.30am and the pits were going full steam ahead by 7, the weather was a perfect warm still winters day, with many discovering you could still get sunburnt in July.

Berry Sweet Strawberry Farms sponsored the 3 classes of Junior 90cc -110cc standard & Modified and Junior 200-300cc.

Numbering 11 on the grid, the 90cc Class were split down the middle, 1/2 in standard and 1/2 in modified. Christopher Bosnakis on the Cobra had a fantastic day out finishing with a bag full of 1st places, the cobra purred like a kitten and Chris made sure this event was his,he kept a cool head and walked away with the Modified 1st place Cup. Aston Oliver was runner up with Tyson Evans in 3rd. Standard 90cc Juniors is a developing class with riders on more "off the floor" type Junior quads compared to their high performance modified class. Maverick Cuthbert on the TRX 90cc took 3 wins in front of duelling duo of James Ognenis & Jemma Merrylees who ended the day on equal points, only to be seperated by a count back. The 90cc class sustained a few casualties on the day, both bike and limb and we hope Shannon, PJ,Donovan and Daniel are all back out racing soon.

The Junior 200-300cc class is commonly called the "Blaster Class" for obvious reasons all the riders ride Yamaha 200cc Blasters. This class continues to grow and fielded the largest amount of riders on the grid all day.Current #1 Aus Champion Luke Gaisford was on a mission to complete his Junior career with the #1 WA plate on his back, he scored a trifecta of wins and will now be competing in the Senior State Rounds. Adam Davies has been Luke's long time nemesis from 2002 and along with Brayden Spencer, Kyle Brenton and Marcus Smith are now ready to battle it out for top honours, I cant wait to see who will come out on top, as I'm sure the racing will be exciting as these young riders step it up.

The Veterans class was a veritable who's who of old time Motocrossers starting with the Winner of the day Anthony Yewers
2nd Grant Gaisford on a count back from Scott Higson in 3rd. The racing was great with a few bingles, crashes and tussles between Petricevich,Higson and Gaisford.
Maringoni,Bush and Williams staged their own battle and it seemed like we had our own, ProVets and ClubVets battles happening.

The Women had their 2nd race meet this year out on their own, racing in June at Byford for their State Titles, which were decided on the Womens Motocross Championships day, today was a day to battle it out and have some fun amongst their Quad Peers.
Cathy Bush put it some amazing laptimes and looked strong all day, Fiona, Monique,Jessica,Sharon and Gina pushed hard all day and put on some great racing, it is quite interesting to compare the laptimes on mylaps betwee the women and the Girl Blaster riders, some of these young women are about to turn 16 and populate this class a little more with girls that have a good racing background behind them from Juniors.

Clubman Quads are getting to the serious end of the season. Paul Hughes on his home track battled it out all day with Dean Terry who has put a buffer between himself and Ben Papas for the series. The suzukis seem to dominate this class today with Scott Higson taking 4th. Daniel Udell from the Manjimup club is climbing his way up the ladder with consistent performance at each round holding him just 2 points behind Papas for the series in 3rd place. BSA event is on Sept 2nd and these guys are going to battle it out to the end.

Intermediate Quads had a little better field of 6, The first thing everyone was looking at today was laptimes of the guys racing in this class. Dave Sanders 75pts, Taylor Milling 64pts,Coby Holland 62pts were extremely fast and should be exciting to watch come round 5 when the Intermediates will again be on the Grid with the pro's. Tom Stevens suffered a crash in the first race, which held him back somewhat from his usual speed, he still holds second Place in the series above Michael Harcourt in 3rd.

Pro Quad Racers put on some of the best racing I have ever seen, Race 2 of the day was the most amazing! the lead changing, position swaps, out manouvering, out jumping, out braking and pure exceleration, it was all there... In the back of my mind i was betting all 8 of these riders were thinking "Now thats the way the Pro's do it"  If this is what we have in store at BSA come Sept 2nd, I would get your chair trackside as this Championship is going to come down to the wire.
Congratulations must go to Ryan Lancaster for his first State Round Race win for 2007.

Overall for the day
Chris Brenton 68
Ryan Lancaster 67
Anthony Yewers 64

The Day ended with almost everyone hitting the clubrooms, Bar and Canteen for the Trophy Presentations and awards.
WAMX series coordinator Daniel Collis had sourced a full set of Gear and a Helmet from Series Sponsors Mcleods Products, as giveaways and these were awarded to Sharon Ackerman and Lyndsay Pond.

Chris Brenton on behalf of all Quad riders took to the lectern and asked Graham Terry to come forward as GT had decided
it was now time to step down from Pro Class Racing. Graham has been a long time supporter and racer of Quad motocross
and has won Expert Class national Titles and currently holds the #1WA Plate. It was quite an emotional time for all as Graham recounted some of his years in motocross remembering his days down at Harvey and racing the 400EX.
Graham reiterated his love of the sport and love for racing and the fierce competition with his rivals. It was truly great to see
everyone in the audience in silence, if you come to motocross often and you attend presentations, you will understand
what I mean.

See you all State Round 5
