Luke Gaisford rode in the Pro Open Class and had his sights set on finishing better than 2008, Moto 1 pretty much went to plan but Lukes starts were letting him down, leaving him to have to pass alot of riders to gain a respectable finish, Luke coming in 5th completed a top 5 WA finish, Moto 2 saw Luke jump to a great start behind Brenton and Lancaster, Lancaster's bike stopped on lap 2 and Luke was in 2nd for about 4 laps when Higson and Mckay got the jump on him through the doubles, holding on to 4th place at the chequers. Moto 3 was a shocking start which saw Luke at the rear of the field not once, but twice getting caught up in traffic and spending the entire 20minutes trying to get passed riders, 8th place over the finish line was the result, unfortunately the chain came off in moto 4  while sitting in 5th position and put paid to a good result for that race as it took minutes to sort the chain out, as it had broken most of the teeth off his front sprocket, circulating to finish with just 5 points to his credit.
Luke rode really well on the weekend and the last moto would have been one of the best and most aggressive we had seen him race, passing people at will and still being within 100m of the leaders at the end of 20 minutes,  most of the field had been lapped by the front 5 riders which included Luke who took the 5th position in race 5. After a long season starting back in February and with 2 events to go, Luke will take a much earned rest before he looks towards 2010.

Simone Gaisford as a Junior was a great little rider, battling out many moto's with her brother through 90cc and 200cc. But it was a few nasty bone braking accidents that turned Simone towards her other love of Basketball. Turning 16 in January and after sustaining a major ankle injury at basketball, Simone tried her hand at two wheels and competed in the WA Womens Solo State Championships series, coming out a creditable 10th place in a field of 23 riders, over 3 rounds. After an Injury took Dad Grant out of Tumbulgum, Simone took her first ride on a Senior 450cc Quad, and although a few rides on the quad at practice, went onto compete in the WA Womens Quad State Championships where she took 2nd place. Since we were all off to Murray Bridge a plan to allow Simone and Grant to share a quad across 2 classes was proposed and Simone went to the nationals with an open mind of enjoying herself and seeing where she would come. Race 1 saw Simone grab a 3rd place and her competitive instinct kicked in and to her surprise and dismay, Grant rolled the quad in 2nd race and bent the steering stem, a sigh of dismay but Brad & Leon Filbey allowed Simone the use of their spare Yamaha and Simone managed an 8th. The Honda was fitted with a new steering stem, and Simone went out in the 3rd moto and came 4th, the 4th moto she got a great start and ended up in 2nd place for the entire moto beating eventual Aus Champ, Simone was clearing jumps that attracted the attention of friends who hadnt seen her ride like this since before her accident in 2006 ! Simone was on target for a 4th place, but things werent going to plan, as Grant was racing the Honda just stopped, and had to be towed in, again the Filbeys came to the rescue with the Yamaha and all she needed do was finish with a good result to hold onto 4th.  Moto 5 she held onto 5th and while riding a little cautious finished with 4th overall intact.
Great finish for her first Senior Womens Nationals Aus #4

Grant Gaisford raced in a trully loaded with talent Veterans 45+ class, anyone who was anyone in this era was in Murray Bridge, Rick Beer, Len Pipicello, Pete Middleton, Scott Higson, Rob VanVliet and a host of others providing what would be some competitive racing between the fathers of some of Australia's best riders.
Grant's day didnt start well, a first corner mishap had him at the back of the field and saw him battle his way up to 5th place. Unfortunately another 1st corner mishap in the second and coming out of that one with a bent steering stem and a race to run with very crooked handlebars, still managed to get a 5th never the less had some people shaking their heads ;) Sunday was a whole new day and with a new steering stem fitted Grant got passed the first corner in race 3 & 4 without incident and cemented a 4th place finish in both. Race 5 the finale of the weekend and Grant had his sights set on an overall 4th place and knew he would be in for a battle royal with Higson and co. Off the start gates and Grant got a beautiful start, hanging with Rick Beer and put some distance between himself and double jumping Middleton, Grant took off, everything was going to plan when suddenly the bike started missing and threatening to stop, then with 2 laps to go, it gave up and left Grant stranded on the side of the track watching his peers race it out without him. The truly great camaraderie and good racing between the vets 45+ made up for the place as it will be lucky if everyone was together again racing, afterall dont forget these guys are all heading for 50 years of age !
