Lake Yearlering Pony Express
On Sunday 6th July Narrogin Dirt Bike Association held their inaugural event.
Under the banner of the experienced Wagin Motorcycle Club a four hour race was held on the property of the Dawes family. The property is situated on the outskirts of the small rural township of Yearlering. Mr Dawes, a passionate motorcycle enthusiast, already had a track in mind when approached by the club. Several days of track marking followed with a track approximately 30 kilometres long and numerous detours planned, depending on the weather of the day.
Around 30 keen riders took advantage of the camping facilities, braving the icy conditions and were rewarded with a clear blue sky for race day.
Rider numbers were an unknown quantity.  However, a very pleasing 138 riders nominated.
By far the biggest class was the “B” Grade two wheelers. This was followed by the ironmen of both two and four wheels. An analysis of this would indicate that the ordinary rider is being catered for by this type of event.
Unfortunately a few track deviations had to be made as a precaution against boggy conditions. This did not prevent the riders on the practise lap from returning all one colour, Lake Yearlering sticky, soil, black.
While the riders battled the mud, fast plains, tight bush and creek sections, their partners enjoyed warm food from the catering ladies.
Mr. Russel Dawes supplied a mobile pressure cleaner that was in constant use. The Wagin Cub members enthusiastically lent their time and skills to make the day very rewarding. Narrogin club members were given insight into the running of an event. Riders were able to circulate with minimum interruption and the proceeds of the day have gone to building a financial Narrogin club.
Due to the success of the event Narrogin Dirt Bike Association is well on their way to once again becoming a noted entity in the dirt Racing scene.
