Motorex 2008 WA Quad State Championships
Featuring the Berry Sweet Junior Quad Motocross State Titles

A full day of Quad racing was held at the AJS Motorcycle Club on Sunday July 13th. Seniors competed in 5 classes for their round 4 points towards the Senior State Round Series. While the Juniors put everything on the line for 3 races toward the state titles in 3 classes.

The 90cc -110cc Junior classes were won by Chris Bosnakis riding the Cobra, Chris dominated the day winning all 3 races in the Modified and all 3 Standard races. Aston Oliver took the runners-up trophies following Chris over the line in all races in 2nd. Maverick Cuthbert (Honda 90cc) in  3rd place in the Modified class, and clinched 3rd in standards with a mixed bag of results. Daniel Fletcher and Tyson Evans rounded out the class in 4th & 5th.
The Standard field of 9 riders saw PJ Clinton and Kyle Yewers on equal points taking 4th & 5th  while James Ognenis who podiumed in race 2 & 3 and suffered a dnf in race 1, was unfortunate to miss out on the trophies. Connor Johnston, Adam Filbey and Shania Hutchins battled it all day putting on some very competitive racing. For all the seniors who race at AJS they certainly applaud the huge effort these young riders put in.

The 200cc-300cc Junior Class again fielded a huge grid of 17 young teenagers, what used to be a field completely made up of Yamaha Blasters has now extended its boundaries, seeing some 4 strokes on the grid, the raptor 250 & Honda 300cc featured and these bikes seem to do exceedingly well on the deep sand of AJS.

Lachlan Stone took the win in the 200cc-300cc class (3rd 3rd 1st) with an impressive ride on the Raptor 250cc, travelling from Darwin for the event to experience first hand racing with 16 others in the Junior class was a first for Locky, who for went his NT Titles, which was also held on Sunday.

Marcus Smith would have to have been the most excited out of all award recipients, obviously jubilant with his 2nd place, and the highest seeded race number by a Junior quad rider in WA for 2009. Brad Filbey came 3rd and is quite new to Quad racing, he borrowed his brothers Raptor, and kept the Blaster for a spare, the choice was a good one, 5th 2nd 3rd was enough to put Kyle Brenton also on the Raptor 250 into 4th position, (4th 4th 6th)

Stephen Wilson(Honda300) easily accounted for the first 2 races, but a technical clutch problem in the 3rd saw Stephen towed back to the pits, to his credit he always has a smile, but the disappointment must have been terrible. He had enough points up his sleeve to hold onto 5th and now holds Seeded race number WA#JQ5 . Five of the Junior class suffered dnf’s throughout the day which caused quite a domino effect in the results. It must be noted how sportsmanlike all the parents were to help make sure all the kids were back out on the grid for every race.
