Round 2 of the WA Junior Quad Motocross Championships were held on Saturday May 30th at the Historic Cosy Creek circuit in Manjimup. Having held the Motocross of Nations and playing host to some of the best riders in the world, it was certainly a treat for the Juniors to be part of the Manjimup 15000
Round 2 was a four race round, with a hundred points up for grabs towards their series. Twenty Four 200cc-300cc riders have now participated in the series, with quite a large number of riders in their last year before advancing to the Senior ranks. Fourteen 90cc-110cc riders are racing for the WA Junior titles, and this group of riders seem to improve and race faster each time we see them.
The Juniors 200-300cc riders are a class field including Aus #1 Stephen Wilson, Marcus Smith, Jordan Dummett, Joel Mortimer and Adam Davies.
Round 1 went to Marcus Smith, Round 2 to Adam Davies with Jordan Dummett consistent finishes putting him in second overall for the series. Stephen Wilson has seen some set backs, which saw him slide back in the points, but no doubt he will be back for round 3 with some renewed vigour. Joel Mortimer at 6ft 4 is holding it together in 4th place while Donovan Petersen rounds out the top 5.
Round 3 is certainly wide open to anyone who wants the podium and the number 1 plate, as the racing has been amazing in round 1&2, no doubt round 3, in 5 weeks time will be the biggest crowd puller of the day!
After 2 rounds the Junior 90cc-110cc is being dominated by Aus #1 Christopher Bosnakis, with 7 wins to his credit. Aston Oliver with 6 2nd places, had a bike malfunction and has slipped down to 3rd place, while Maverick Cuthbert’s consistent effort has elevated him into 2nd place. James Ognenis and Chad McKay battled for top 5 line honours at round 2.
Shania Hutchins and Caitlin Barrett maintain a close battle for the girls bragging rights and hold 5th and 6th overall.
Thirty Eight juniors have now competed across the series, each and every child should be very proud of themselves as they are competing in the first ever State Round Series for Junior Quads. Each year the numbers grow and so do the skill levels of the riders. The flow on to senior grids is evident with Juniors taking top places in clubman and some ex- Juniors like 200- 300cc Aus #1’s Josh Higson & Luke Gaisford already holding Pro Quad Positions.
