Motorex 2008 WA State Quad Motocross Championships
Finale Coastal Park September 7th 2008

The Motorex WA State Quad Motocross Championships were finalised on Sunday Sept 7th with a fitting end to a season that had so many highs and lows for many riders. It all came to a conclusion in front of a huge crowd at Coastal Park, with celebrations and disappointments and so many plans for 2009.

The Pro Class was set to run to the wire, and lived up to the preamble, Brenton had a good buffer of 41pts, and bar a day of dnf’s was set to go “back to back” State Titles. Extraordinarily Brentons PT Honda TRX 450ER started to slow down in the first race, and everyone in the whole field passed him as he circulated to maintain at least some points ! Lucky the SBR Honda was there as Backup for race 2&3.
Ryan Lancaster took the early lead in the first race and maintained the lead from start to finish, throwing a cat amongst the pigeons in the overall. Lancaster needed to finish in front of McKay and Higson all day to podium in 3rd and set about doing just this.
Race 2 saw a brilliant race between 55 & 44 with less than 2 bike lengths between the 2 the entire race, while Mckay and Yewers were relegated to 3rd and 4th.
Race 3 was stamped as a head to head shootout between Lancaster and McKay for 3rd . Brenton had  tied up 1st and Yewers had a buffer to hold 2nd for the series. Brenton took the early lead but with only half a lap completed parked in a berm, Lancaster took flight with Yewers and McKay chasing, Mckay overtook Yewers and set about chasing Lancaster, but the gap was significant and all eyes were on the pair while calculations showed, if this was how they finished, Mckay would drop to 4th for the series by a point !
The race was long and the track rough but the gap never closed, with a relieved Lancaster taking the chequers, McKay in 2nd with Yewers and Higson  fighting it out for 3rd & 4th,  Brenton had worked his way back up to finish 5th.
Overall results for the series
1st Chris Brenton
2nd Anthony Yewers
3rd Ryan Lancaster

The Intermediate field lead by Luke Gaisford have spent the entire series closing the gap between them and the Pro’s, Gaisford completing a perfect 17 wins for the series has tacked himself onto the Pro pack, with Luke Harrison’s stat sheet showing at least a 16 second per lap improvement between last year and this. Paul Hughes and Kyle Lawrence, Ben Papas, and Michael Harcourt have mixed it up, spreading the podium places between them at every round.
1st Luke Gaisford
2nd Paul Hughes
3rd Kyle Lawrence

Clubman’s raced alongside the Veterans class(35+ yrs) all year,  the series set to be a pearler, with experienced Veterans mixing it with the “not so experienced” clubman. The clubman Quads who emerged themselves to the front of the pack each race, found themselves with Petricevich, Gaisford and Thompson to chase, never letting their guard down to cruise to a good finish. Rick Stephens and Steve Trandos and later in the series Tom Udell set themselves up constantly to race for the lead and chase down the vets. Youngsters Jesse Dick, Jordan Smith and Nathan Vestey sparked some interest mid season. Jessica Osborne finished the series in equal 4th with the honour of the Only person in this class to finish all 17 races. As noted the Veterans Brett Petricevich has a bag full of trophies and medallions finishing in the top 2 on 2001’02’03 while Gaisford has 2 vet National titles. Vince Thomson has a wealth of experience and I’m sure we haven’t seen the best of him yet !
