Mach 7th 2010
Coastal's first club run was held yesterday on a hot Autumn day at Coastal Park.
We arrived early to help do sign in at scrutineering, from 7am til 8.45 it was non stop, with a never ending cue weaving out both doors, 243 riders creating somewhat of a recent history record at Coastal for a club run.
Some of the classes were full including senior quads with 20 riders signing on for the day, 11 off 200-300cc, 5off 90-110cc and our very first ever 50cc quad Rhys Williams.
Covering 12 classes both Junior and Senior, two and four wheel the task was huge to get every race run.
Remarkably and even with the "Grim Reaper" on watch not an ambulance in sight !
The 90cc class was dominated by young powerhouse Chris Bosnakis, who looks to have set his sight on being the first 90cc to clear the infamous Coastal infield jump, with ooo's and ahs from the crowd as he landed just a safe bike length short of the damp ramp, it doesnt seem that this is forever going to be out of his reach. James Ognenis riding quicker as he gets used to the Cobra gears looks more comfortable after each race, with Adam Filbey and Shania Hutchins pushing each other to new heights and providing same great spectator viewing for all the quad crew watching. Zac Ognenis sported a new DRR and fresh out of the crate may be the first one of its kind in Australia.
The 200cc class with 12 of its riders advancing to Seniors in the last 12 months has provided a new crew of amazing riders to keep us all enthralled with their "No Fear" attitude. Anthony Pearce had his first race day at Coastal and successfully took the win for overall days points.Anthony stated "that the track was different to what he had ridden before and he thought Coastal was a good track with conditions changing all the time, you need to keep your concentration less you end up out of your line and can lose positions in seconds!" Donovan Petersen, Josh McKay and Shaun Woodhead were amongst the podium places in every race providing the spectacle we all call Blaster Racing !
Senior Quads at club level cater for all quad club members to race together, whether Pro/ Intermediate, Clubman, Veteran or Womens. At Coastal the riders are scored in two groups, Younguns and Veterans. Although theres so many grades of riders, the journey being only 4 laps makes for exciting racing, with outcomes somewhat of a surprise across the 3 races. Luke Gaisford took the 3 wins across the day, leaving Adam Davies, Joel Mortimer, Brad Filbey & Matt Mckay to tussle out the minor positions. Plenty of people watching the "New Seniors" strut their stuff, and see how they handle a 450cc as the sand surface gave a preview of what is to come on April 11 at Senior State Round 1.
When available all scores can be accessed from the Coastal MCC Website
