2011 Smarter than Smoking
WA State Quad Motocross Championships
Coastal Motorcycle Club will host round 2 of the Quad Motocross Championships for 2011. Coastal Park has been a long time supporter of the Quad motocross racers with 14 National Podium placegetters from 2010 Australian Championships, coming from the Coastal Club.
The Championship class of Quads this year includes both Pro and intermediate graded riders. The format for Quad only days includes two 15minute plus 1 lap motos and a 6 lap sprint. Coastal Park has seen quite a few track changes over recent months and a test of the fitness of the riders will certainly come into play for the long moto’s.
Luke Gaisford took maximum points in round 1, the WA #1 rider calls Coastal Park home and with the likes of Jordan Dummett, Josh McKay, and Joel Mortimer, Brad Filbey and Marcus Smith also with a Coastal background, racing will be exciting.
The Clubman Quads have a full capacity grid of 20, excellent racing at Round 1 will no doubt carry through to Coastal Park, this time the sand specialists should have the advantage over the hard pack riders of Kalgoorlie. Youngster Aaron Tate holds top spot, with Shaun Woodhead and Dave Harris just a point apart. This race will bring the punters to the fence, expect action a plenty going through the first two corners and infield, lets see who’s ready for the big league!
WA Veterans Quad State Championship will complete its two rounds, with some of the fastest vets racing, you would be a confident man to put money on this one. Dave Harris holds a slender margin in front of Matt Mckay and Barry Noy.
WA Womens Quad Championship was dominated by youngster Bernice Ackermann at round 1, the Coastal park rider is more at home in sand, and the ladies will have their work cut out to catch this little dynamo. Sarah Moore advancing from the junior ranks put the womens class on notice at her first senior outing, Sarah and the 450cc seemed to match perfectly and will be a major player in Womens Quad racing. Caitlin Piesse also advancing from Juniors, and straight onto the podium in seniors giving the older riders a shake up.
Junior Motocross premier class of 200cc/300cc 12 - U 16years brings excitement a plenty where ever they race. The ongoing duel between youngsters Donovan Petersen and Chris Bosnakis has been on since the pair raced in 90cc, and now on the larger machines, the rivalry is no less intense. Petersen took out line honours at Kalgoorlie’s round 2, while Bosnakis took the win at WJMC’s round 1 Bosnakis holds the series lead, and for the series Chad McKay and Aston Oliver hold 2nd and 3rd just 2 points apart.
The two youngest grids of Quad riders are separated into Limited and competition. The limited class is lead by Brodie Lowry with Jack Gaske and Max Blackburn a close 2nd and 3rd .
Competition Class 90cc - 125cc is for the 9- U 13yrsr juniors and the racing between these riders is brilliant. PJ Clinton holds the series lead just one point in front of Adam Filby who won round 2. James Ognenis the winner from round 1, holds 3rd place. Broome rider Jack Wilcox will make the long journey, his brilliance at Kalgoorlie somewhat overshadowed by a mechanical, but he is definitely one to watch.
