Smarter than Smoking
2009 WA State Motocross Championship
Round 5

Sunday 9th August Noble Falls will host round 5 of the WA State  Motocross Championships. Over 250 riders are expected in all of the 11 classes, with the 3 classes of Quads at capacity.

Last weekend saw the Quad racers, split between events across Australia, and this weekend will see stress levels increase as the current class leaders try to maintain their leads, while everyone else does their best to be the top dog.

Clubman Quads top three riders are separated by only 16 points. Brad Filbey who leads the series will miss round 5 due to injury, Kyle Brenton and Mitchel Clarke wont get it easy though as Sam Derbyshire and Brodie Puleo are quite close behind in points, and will no doubt relish the hard pack fast paced surface of Noble Falls. Clubman Quads has had 26 entries so far this year, and Noble Falls itself attracted a massive over subscription to this class, with 10 juniors moving up to seniors in the next few months, times will be interesting in Quad racing in the near future.

Intermediate Quads have been dominated by Ross Varnavides in 2009, already as fast as many Pro’s, Ross is moving through the field and tackling the big guns of Australian Quad racing at every outing. Daniel Udell and Rick Stephens hold 2nd and 3rd place just 8 points apart. The return of Steve Trandos will add some flavour to the race, while Michael Harcourt has been up the pointy end of recent Open event Races.

The Pro Quad racers of WA have had a reputation for being some of the fastest riders in the country, unfortunately this doesn’t come without a few injuries, this season it seems, quite a few of the Pro’s are carrying injuries all at the same time. Depending on fitness this weekends races at Noble Falls should have some interesting results, and the series Championship although seems to have a strangle hold by leader Anthony Yewers, 21 points in front of Luke Gaisford. Both riders are carrying injuries and Glen Ashworth sitting in 3rd place and Ryan Lancaster in 4th will certainly be looking to close the gap leading into round 6. Josh Higson, Coby Holland, Chad Mckay and Tom Stevens will make a welcome return to the series bulking the Pro Class up to full capacity.
