2010 Smarter than Smoking WA State Motocross Championships
Round 3
June 20 2010
Shrubland Park Bunbury was the venue for this round of racing, a week of rain lead up to a beautiful warm sunny day, the sand track was prepped beautifully, but with practice over it fluffed up and became quite whooped for racing.
Clubman Quads group A
were on the card for Bunbury State Round, and lucky for them they were also first on the grid.
Race 1.
Joel Mortimer and Barry Noy lead the charge but bike problems for both saw them pull off and on the track, Bernice Ackermann took the lead with Brayden Spencer attempting to pass, but it was young Bernice that took the chequers with much praise from the commentators and cheering from the crowd.
Race 2 and 3 saw Joel Mortimer streak out to a huge lead in each race, Barry Noy, Brayden Spencer and Matt Mckay battled out the minor placings, but the consistency of Patrick McNally taking out 4th in each moto, saw him take 3rd on the podium. Brayden 2nd and Joel Mortimer first for the round.
The Championship class had a mixture of results with the first five placings in each race mixed between seven riders.
Race 1 saw Ryan Lancaster out to a 10 second lead, passing the last lap board and heading into the final section of the track, Lancaster went over the bars, Luke Gaisford capitalised on the mistake and passed the fallen rider and took the chequers, Lancaster got back to hold second with Josh Higson in 3rd.
Race 2 saw Lancaster again with a great start, Glen Ashworth on his back wheels followed by Gaisford, Higson and McKay, Mckay passed Higson in the second lap while Gaisford was putting the move on Ashworth and Lancaster pulled away, Mckay passed Ashworth as well, to eventually take the third place behind Gaisford in 2nd and Lancaster taking the 1st place.
Race 3 Lancaster took the 3rd holeshot with Gaisford in tow and McKay all over him, half way through the 10minute journey Gaisford went into a corner a little too hot, and blew the 4 foot high berm, McKay took advantage and passed Gaisford and held the position, until the last lap when Gaisford took advantage of a Mckay error and passed him back holding onto second place behind Lancaster.
Bunbury is a difficult track to race in State Round conditions and most of the new riders experienced just how draining this track could become, and finishing with good points for the series at Bunbury deserves the applause of all.
Dont miss a minute of Round 4 in just a few short weeks at AJS Motorcycle Club Neerabup
July 11th.
