WA Riders head to South Australia for Australian Championships

Western Australia’s Quad Motocross riders will converge on Murray Bridge South Australia this Friday for the 2009 Australian Quad Motocross Championships this weekend Sept 19th & 20th at the Monarto Motocross Track.

The biggest field of riders at nationals ever, with estimated 180+ riders including more than fifty from Western Australia. In only its short 4 year history of being a sanctioned National event, race numbers have continually grown and the honour of holding the Championships is sort after by all states.

WA, have always been supportive of the Championship with many riders attending each year, no matter which state holds the event. South Australia is right in the centre for everyone and hence the huge numbers and continued popularity of the event. The country is a buzz with excitement and while many a convoy, truck, crates and sea containers make their way across the border, action wont start til Saturday morning.

14 practices and 65 races will determine 13 Champions by Sunday night.

Australia’s Pro #1 Ryan Lancaster from Tom Price will be defending his ’08 title, Chris Brenton(Aus #2),Chad Mckay(Aus #3) Josh Higson, Luke Gaisford (WA #2) and Clint Mansell, will definitely be in the mix as the Pro Class races 5 moto’s each of 20mins +1 lap. The Penultimate class of the Championship will have all fence lines filled with spectators, as many see for the first time the fastest Quad Riders in Australia all on one grid.

Intermediate’s Rick Stephens, Tom and Daniel Udell have put in some huge racing this year and should be fiercely competitive coming off a six round series racing alongside the Pro’s. Scott Higson always competitive and is a dark horse chance of a podium in this one.

Clubman riders Kyle Brenton & Brad Filbey will be the ones to watch, in the first year out of Juniors and up the front of the field. Nick Osborne & Adam Davies come to the grid late in the year from Juniors but never the less have shown themselves to be very competitive.

Brad Baldock, Matt Mckay and Antony Osborne have all entered the 35+ vets, while Grant Gaisford and Scott Higson represent the 45+ brigade. Don’t be mistaken, all these vets are very fast and some of the most popular races for both spectators and riders.

WA have a group of seven women out of the 19 entered. Jessica Osborne WA#1 Simone Gaisford WA #2, Sharon & Bernice Ackerman, Taneil Morgan, Gina Merrylees and Jamie-Lee Brenton. Jessica was unfortunate to lose a podium position last year on a count-back and will be looking to go one better this year.

The 200-300cc 12 to under 16 years has been an over subscribed grid in WA all year, so it is with no surprise and with at least ten riders going from WA that the Nationals grid is also over full. To remedy this situation and inline with the Junior Women’s solo’s, the class has been split into Males (18) and females(8)
Marcus Smith WA #1 Stephen Wilson Aus#1 head the boys with an amazing group of riders Jordan Dummett, Joel Mortimer, Brayden Spencer, Dean Filbey and Josh McKay all looking for glory. The girls will see Brooke McKay, Jemma Merrylees, Melissa Davies and Shannon Clinton go head to head with Australia’s best Junior Women.

The 90cc-110cc class is split Modified and Standard and with one of the biggest showing of riders in recent history, is a feather in the cap for SA junior training and promotion of Junior racing. WA will have Aus #1 Chris Bosnakis spearheading the WA group with Aston Oliver, Chad McKay, Jack Baldock, James and Zac Ognenis, Adam Filbey and PJ Clinton and Caitlyn Barrett spread across all three classes.

WAMX and WAQuadMX.com wish all the WA Riders a safe journey and great competition for the weekend.
