Round 5

We went to state round 5 Sunday 22nd August, last two state rounds Luke's been suffering some virus, 100day flue or something which half the family had, so was good to go healthy. Luke had a pretty good run at BSA Cup and Southern Cross getting in much needed hard pack track practice, came away with the win at those and was hoping to do well at the State Round.Well a picture says a thousand words, but needless to say, there was a huge down pour on Saturday night which created a pretty muddy track for practice and first race

It took the entire time between the first practice and race 1 to get the bikes clean, 154 riders dumped about 20kg of clay each into the wash down bay and then got ready to race.
Race one, Luke didnt get off the line well and was back in about 5th or so racing with Chad McKay, he passed Chad then caught onto the Larson and Ashworth battle, the 3 way tussle was exciting with passes happening constantly between the three riders, Luke finally made the Larson pass stick on the last lap, then heading up the hill to chequers, Glen held onto second by out dragging Luke by half a bike length over the line.

Race two, Ashworth again got the holeshot, this time Luke much better placed in second tried hard to put the pass on Ashworth, finally getting around him up towards the water tower, he moved out to a good lead, while Larson and Higson passed Ashworth and set about keeping the gap close behind Luke, Higson passed Larson and chased Luke down, one error and he would have him, Luke and Josh kept up the fast pace and went across the line, Luke taking 1st Josh 2nd and Adam 3rd

Race 3 Luke secured the holeshot with Chad Mckay hot in pursuit, while Larson and Higson battled it out, McKay came to grief in spectacular fashion behind Luke.
Luke held his 8 second lead to the chequers.
Great finish 3rd 1st 1st was enough to take the round win and place Luke just 2 points behind leader Ryan Lancaster.
